News Spotlight: Another Day, Another Crazy Bitch With Ovaries

I say it often and I will say it again -- we have to do better people!!!

"A financially desperate woman in South Carolina has confessed to smothering her two children with her bare hands and driving their bodies into a river, the police said on Tuesday morning.

The woman, Shaquan Duley, 29, admitted to killing her 2-year-old and 18-month-old sons after the police pulled her submerged car from a river in Orangeburg, S.C., and discovered their bodies, according to Larry Williams, the county sheriff.

"The statement was made by the mother that she had suffocated the children," Sheriff Williams said at a press conference. "She was a mother that was unemployed. She had no way of taking care of her children." Read entire article here.

"Vice Pioneers" : The Revolver

Beloved revolver

Industrialist Samuel Colt

James Puckle's early creation

The gun is a revered and loved item in our culture. And no gun is more popular than the revolver. The image of someone pulling a trigger is either thrilling or horrifying, but it is always captivating. Here is a little info on its history.

From Wikipedia: "The earliest example of a revolver is a revolving arquebus, produced by Hans Stopler in 1597. Another early specimen, now in the Tower of London armories, is dated to the middle 1600s and attributed to John Dafte of London. This example, a flintlock, uses a single lock, with a flash pan for each of the six chambers. The cylinder is rotated by hand, and locks in place for firing. This was still not perfected, however, as it was apparently destroyed by a misfire.

James Puckle patented a revolving chamber gun in 1718. This gun, which had a 1.25 inch bore (30 mm), was tripod mounted, and the 11-shot cylinder was operated by a hand crank. It is often cited as the first machine gun. By changing cylinders to reload (an early example of a speedloader), the gun was fired and reloaded to fire a total of 63 rounds in seven minutes. Elisha Collier patented a flintlock revolver in Britain in 1818, and significant numbers were being produced in London by 1822.

In 1836, Samuel Colt patented a revolver mechanism that led to the widespread use of the revolver. According to Samuel Colt, he came up with the idea for the revolver while at sea, inspired by the capstan winch, which had a ratchet and pawl mechanism on it, a version of which was used in his guns to rotate the cylinder. Revolvers proliferated largely due to Colt's ability as a salesman." Read more about the revolver here.

"Lyric Raid" : "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse

She may be at her bottom right now, but there's little denying that Amy Winehouse is one of the most talented artists of our generation. She is cutting edge and she avoids cookie cutter lyrics at all costs--even if the cost is getting inspiration from a rugged, drug-filled existence. Here are the lyrics from "Back to Black" from her 2006 album of the same name. Come back Amy!

"He left no time to regret.
Kept his dick wet,
With his same old safe bet.
Me and my head high,
And my tears dry.
Get on without my guy.
You went back to what you knew.
So far removed from all that we went through.
And I tread a troubled track.
My odds are stacked.
I'll go back to black.

We only said good-bye with words.
I died a hundred times.
You go back to her,
And I go back to,
I go back to us.

I love you much.
It's not enough.
You love blow and I love puff.
And life is like a pipe,
And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside.

We only said goodbye with words.
I died a hundred times.
You go back to her.
And I go back to.
Black, black, black, black, black, black, black..."

News Spotlight: Hate and Tila Tequila

"A sheriff confirms that Tila Tequila has complained that audience members attacked her with stones and feces early Saturday morning at the Gathering of the Juggalos festival in downstate Illinois, the AP reports.

Tequila recounted the event to TMZ: “I went onstage and immediately, before I even got on stage, dudes were throwing huge stone rocks in my face, beer bottles that slit my eye open, almost burnt my hair on fire cuz they threw fire crackers on stage, and they even took the shit out of the port-0-potty and threw shit and piss at me when I was onstage.”

The four-day annual Gathering of the Juggalos festival is organized by the Michigan rap group Insane Clown Posse. The fans refer to themselves as “Juggalos.”" --Entertainment Weekly

Ouch. I mean, the girl definitely is annoying and has no talent, but grown men attacking a woman onstage? We really have to do better. I wouldn't expect much from men attending an Insane Clown Posse gathering, but this is a bit much. I think boos from the crowd would have sufficed. And please don't get me wrong--she definitely deserves those.

Dan Lacey's Crazy Antics

Obama and bears and unicorns. Oh my.

Mel Gibson's ticket to hell

Michael Jackson gets his soul back

Dan Lacey is a controversial artist. He is most recently famous for his paintings involving a naked President Obama on unicorns. Even more recently, he has a "Mel Gibson/Rape of Christ" painting. Other than that, he draws pancakes on famous people's heads and is obsessed with Michael Jackson. I've read an article stating that he is insane. He probaby is. Most artists are--at least a little bit. And one thing is for sure. He pushes the envelope. He savors taboo.

Eminem, Rihanna, Domestic Abuse, Irony and 35,000,000 YouTube Views

There's been a lot of fuss over Eminem and Rihanna's pairing for their "Love the Way You Lie" video. Many people are annoyed, if not flat out angry, that a self-proclaimed abuser and a just recently battered woman are singing a song about domestic abuse together. Others find it to be genius and a call for action. The video has broken YouTube records with over 35 million views in just 9 days. Regardless which side of the fence you're on, abuse is one topic that continues to push buttons and is an ongoing focus in entertainment. Rihanna and Eminem today. Let's just see who pushes the button tomorrow.

"Sexpot of the Week"/News Spotlight: Cathy Is Over It

America's most beloved, long-eyelashed, self-doubting career woman comic strip is finally taking a bow. And we're making her our "Sexpot of the Week." We may be the first to bestow such an award upon her and we're sure she'd appreciate it.

"Readers who have been following the exploits of the slightly overweight, somewhat insecure and perpetually single comic strip character Cathy for 34 years will soon find themselves going through withdrawal. Cathy Guisewite, the strip’s creator, announced on Wednesday that she is ending the popular cartoon’s run, The Associated Press reported." Read the entire story.

Well, we hope she reaches her ideal weight and self-esteem level in comic strip heaven. She did manage to unlock the aging secret. Bye, Cathy. It's been real.

News Spotlight: Jet Blue Flight Attendant Quits with a Bang--And Gains Fans

"After being hit on the head by an allegedly rude passenger’s luggage, JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater blew off some verbal steam on the intercom system, grabbed some beverages and slid out the emergency exit. He is scheduled to appear in court today to face charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and trespassing. He could face up to seven years in jail if he is convicted.

Nevertheless, the fed-up flight attendant has become the toast of the online community. While some online commenters think he deserves to go to jail, and others have suggested that the passenger who allegedly mistreated him should be arrested, the online response to Slater’s turbulent meltdown appears to be overwhelmingly positive.

Not only is his story the number one trending topic on Twitter (in New York City, in Seattle, in Baltimore…the list goes on), but a number of Facebook fan pages have sprung up in support of this 20-year veteran of the airline industry." Read the entire article here.

"Lyric Raid" : "Hip Hop Star" by Beyonce

No one is better at having a double persona than Beyonce. She is viewed as quite the lady, but many of her lyrics (a bunch of them) get down and dirty. A lady in the street, a freak in the sheets. Isn't that the American Dream? Below are some of the lyrics from "Hip Hop Star," a song on her 2003 Dangerously in Love album.

"Are you infatuated with me,
I could end your curiosity.
If you don't think I'm too rude,
Here's your chance to make your move.
I sit and wait for nobody.
People say that my, my style is so crazy.
I think you like it baby.
Do you want to get nasty?
I dare you to undress me.

Baby, let me know if you wanna roll,
With this hip hop star.
Bad boots on, pants down low,
I'm a rock star.
Baby let me know if you wanna ride,
with this hip hop star.
I'm a rock star.

Do I blow you away?
Do I stimulate your mind?
Would you taste my love,
if I gave you time.
I have none to waste with you.
I guess you can't stay.
My style is so crazy.
I think you like it baby.
Do you want to get messy?
I dare you to undress me.

Baby, let me know if you wanna roll,
With this hip hop star.
Bamboos on, pants down low.
I'm a hip hop star.
Baby let me know if you wanna ride,
with this Hip hop star.
I'm a rock star."

"Vice Pioneers" : Vodka

Chudov Monastery, where monk Isidore created the recipe for the world's most popular liquor.

Jesus turning water into wine is the most well known story regarding a religious figure being associated with alcohol, but it doesn't stop there. Surprise. Surprise. Although the exact origin of vodka cannot be definitively traced, the first recipe is accredited to a Russian monk.

From Wikipedia: "According to a legend, around 1430 a monk called Isidore from Chudov Monastery inside the Moscow Kremlin made a recipe of the first Russian vodka. Having a special knowledge and distillation devices he became an author of the new type of alcoholic beverage of a new, higher quality. This "bread wine" as it was initially known, was produced for a long time exclusively in the Grand Duchy of Moscow and in no other principality of Rus' (this situation persisted until the era of industrial production). That's why this beverage for a long time was associated with Moscow." Read more about vodka here.

"Sexpot of the Week" -- Roxi DLite

Photos courtesy of Jac Bowie

Burlesque performers are in a sexy league of their own so of course we have to include one every once in a while as our "Sexpot of the Week."

In June, she became the Reigning Queen of Burlesque and Miss Exotic World 2010 at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. On top of that she is an accomplished photographer.

"MANCHESTER, Conn. — Police say a driver at a beer warehouse was being escorted from the property after a disciplinary hearing when he started shooting, killing eight people and wounding two before killing himself.

Manchester Police Chief Marc Montminy says 34-year-old Omar Thornton had been offered the chance to quit or be fired. Montminy says Thornton was being led away from the meeting when he pulled out a handgun and started shooting.

"Vice Pioneers" : The Vibrator

Full steam ahead: George Taylor, M.D.'s 1869 steam-powered pleasure invention, the "Manipulator". Scary.

Very seldom do people delve into the histories of inventions and concepts that celebrate vice. Many of these inventions and topics are loved in society, but most people don't give a second thought as to where they came from and who pioneered them. That's where we step in. Each week we will spotlight a history tidbit of either an invention, word, creation, or idea that celebrates our naughty sides. This week, the vibrator. As for the picture, I know that thing is scary, but everything great invention has a starting point!

From Wikipedia:
"One of the first vibrators was a steam-powered device called the "Manipulator", which was created by American physician George Taylor, M.D. This machine was a rather awkward device, but was still heralded as some relief for the doctors who found themselves suffering from fatigued wrists and hands. Circa 1880, Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville patented the first electromechanical vibrator, then, in 1902, the American company Hamilton Beach patented the first electric vibrator available for retail sale, making the vibrator the fifth domestic appliance to be electrified, after the sewing machine, fan, tea kettle, and toaster, and about a decade before the vacuum cleaner and electric iron." Read more about the beloved vibrator here.

"Lyric Raid" : "Renegade" by Jay-Z and Eminem

This entire verse is created around the theme of religion and the wordplay is pretty genius. It's hard to capture the elegance of the verse on screen without hearing it so I suggest you take a listen. Eminem killed it so Jay-Z, not usually overshadowed, is getting skipped over on this one.

"See I'm a poet to some, a regular modern day Shakespeare.
Jesus Christ the King of these Latter Day Saints here.
To shatter the picture in which of that as they paint me
as a monger of hate and Satan, a scatter-brained atheist.
But that ain't the case, see it's a matter of taste.
We as a people decide if Shady's as bad as they say he is.
Or is he the latter - a gateway to escape?
Media scapegoat, who they can be mad at today.
See it's easy as cake, simple as whistlin Dixie.
while I'm wavin the pistol at sixty Christians against me.
Go to war with the Mormons, take a bath with the Catholics,
in holy water - no wonder they try to hold me under longer.
I'm a motherfuckin spiteful, delightful eyeful,
The new Ice Cube - motherfuckers hate to like you.
What did I do?
I'm just a kid from the gutter,
makin this butter off these bloodsuckers,
cause I'm a muh'fuckin renegade."

News Spotlight: Homewrecker Gets Married

As you probably have heard by now, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz got hitched yesterday. It's very amusing that when it comes to famous people, we turn our heads the other way on matters of infidelity and homewreckage. Angelina did it and everyone seems to still love her. (I mean, we made her our "Sexpot of the Week" so we're guilty as well). Many others in Hollywood have done it with no fan outrage as an outcome.

But for some reason, it seems worse from Alicia. She just had a seemingly untarnishable persona. Then she had an affair with a married man and got knocked up before marriage. She's due to have the baby in November and I partially feel like she rushed the wedding so she can claim she was married before she had a kid--just clenching to hold onto any of that angelic persona that is a phantom of the past. It's okay Alicia. You're just part of the bad woman's club now. We welcome you.

Sex is Not Recession Proof

So I stumbled upon this "They Shoot Porn Stars Don't They?" website on a whim. Written and photographed by Susannah Breslin, it is a photo essay that explores the recession's affect on the porn business. The blatant abuse of women in the memoir is infuriating, but I am happy she includes it. It reveals the abrasiveness of the not so high end sector of the business instead of glorifying the Jenna Jameson millionaire ideal. It's well written and relatively short so it's great for someone with a short attention span (like yours truly). Give it a go.

In Crazy Bitch News: Woman Admits to Smothering Newborns

Douai, France (CNN) -- "French prosecutors said Thursday they charged a woman with murder after she admitted giving birth to and smothering eight babies over a 17-year period in northern France.

The woman, Dominique Cottrez, said she hid the pregnancies and deaths from her husband, who said he had no idea what she had done, prosecutor Eric Vaillant told reporters. Cottrez is overweight and was able to conceal the pregnancies, he said.

Cottrez told investigators the reason she killed the babies was that she did not want to have any more children and did not want to see doctors for contraceptives, Vaillant said..."

News Spotlight: Warren Jeffs

Polygamous sect leader Warren S. Jeffs of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was ordered a new trial today in the rape of a 14 year old girl. There's something naturally annoying about people getting away with crimes because of loopholes and courtroom mistakes. When it's something as serious as the rape of a child, it is infuriating. In this particular case, Jeffs will be held anyway because of warrants for his arrest in other sexual assault charges, but what about the many times the loophole sets the criminal free for good? Let's get it together American legal system. Click here to read The New York Times article.

Sexiest Bitch On the Planet + Coolest Bitch On the Planet

Beyonce and Lady Gaga have teamed up for Beyonce's "Video Phone" video. It was leaked before it aired, but was pulled off of YouTube by Sony lightspeed. Now it is officially released and just the fact the two of them are together makes it an entertaining endeavor. The video is not so bad either although it can't be called an artistic masterpiece. And apparently, they can't get enough of each other as they paired up for Lady Gaga's "Telephone" on her new The Fame Monster album. Why they are so intrigued with making communication songs together, we're not sure, but we love cool and sexy bitches so we had to give the match-up a stamp of approval.

Oprah, Jenna, and Porn

On Tuesday, Oprah delved into the world of porn, exploring the phenomenon of women becoming such a big audience for the once taboo industry. The best part of the show was when she interviewed Porn goddess Jenna Jameson. Jameson is rarely talked to in depth the way she was on the show and it was nice to see what a smart business woman she is. While people pretend to abhore sexually free women, this show exposed the everyday woman's secret desire to, if not be a porn star, at least fuck like one.
