"The Hard Sell: Taboo In Advertising": Head

I snapped a picture of this sticker last week on a routine walk in the city. It was plastered on the Village Voice box and of course, being interested in such things, I wanted to document it. Austin Head happens to be an over-the-top music personality and DJ that hails from Phoenix, AZ. Gotta give him points for going straight for the "sex sells" angle and not pretending to be overly creative. It sure worked on me and I would have never found him otherwise.

Bey Baby News

I loved Beyonce's pregnancy announcement last night at the VMA's so much I just wanted to repost it. Nothing really taboo about it. I just ♥ it.

"Monday Man Candy": Matthew Gray Gubler

Matthew Gray Gubler is not your stereotypical buff, pretty boy hottie. He doesn't get roles in which he keeps his shirt off and the overall purpose is to be a looker. He's best known for his role as super-smart Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds and he is arguably the sexiest nerd in television history. Other than acting, he is also a director, model, and apparently sketches drawings on occasion. So adorable, so hot.

"Sexpot of the Week": Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana's "Columbiana" came out today. And although critics are not in love with the movie due to its typical plot and over-the-top action scenes, the reviews on Zoe in the role have been overall favorable. Starring in Avatar has, alas, made it possible for this 33-year-old hottie to star in her own films. And thankfully, they have progressed past being morphed into a blue character and we actually get to see her in the flesh.

"Bad (Not Bad Ass) Tattoo": Death Becomes Her

Necrophilia anyone? I mean, it is true. And no one likes to be told no :/

News Spotlight: New Sex Tape Rumor

Another day, another celebrity sex tape. Or not. If this tape between Rihanna and J Cole really exists, for its own credibility Hustler should stop with the "we don't know what we're gonna do with it" crap and do what a magazine does--expose it. If it never comes to light, it's very likely they are full of shit.

From MTV News: "Rihanna has become the latest in a long line of celebrities to fall victim to sex tape rumors. But after adult entertainment company Hustler told Radar Online that it had obtained video of the "Man Down" singer and rapper J. Cole, both artists tweeted denials of the tape's existence.

"We don't believe U, U need more people...AND of course an actual sextape! #slownewsday," Rihanna posted on Wednesday night.

Cole, who opened for Rihanna's Loud tour, also used his Twitter to react to the report, writing early Thursday morning (August 25), "Gossip Gossip, n---a just stop it."

The denials came after a rep for Hustler delivered a statement to Radar, saying, "Hustler [is] in possession of the Rihanna and J. Cole tape. We have seen it and we do not know what we are going to do with it yet.""

"Sex in Art" Weekly Picks--ONEQ

Usually for "Sex in Art" picks, I include artwork from several artists in a single post, but today I'm focusing on ONEQ. While browsing the official website, there were so many illustrations worthy of inclusion that I felt obligated to feature them. And from what I can tell, this is a female artist--making the artwork all the more enticing.

News Spotlight: Winehouse Update

Looks like the overdose theory is out the window in Amy Winehouse's death--at least any of the hardhitting ones people automatically assumed were responsible. It seems we'll never know exactly what happened, but this at least should bring a little more respect to her legacy.

From E! Online: "Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system, but there was alcohol in her bloodstream when she died, her family is revealing.

Toxicology tests done on the British soul singer have come back, but it hasn't been determined yet if the alcohol that was found in her system played any part in her death...

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," read a statement released today by family spokesman Chris Goodman.

"Results indicate that alcohol was present, but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death," the statement continues. "The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October.""

"Monday Man Candy": Common

I was reading about the performers at Rock the Bells (the biggest hip-hop tour) and since it happened to be "Man Candy" day, I settled on Common. Not that I was really setting. He has always been sexy. I attribute it to the fact he has always been deeper, smarter, and more sensual than his rapping counterparts. He dresses his ass off--not afraid to wear a suit in a culture consumed with ultra laid back. All in all, he's just an overall sexy dude and at 39, he still has it.

News Spotlight: Media Whored Wedding

So did you hear these two got hitched this weekend? Thought so. Do you give a fuck? Didn't think so.

"Sexpot of the Week": Jamie Chung

I watched "Sucker Punch" on DVD last night and couldn't remember where I had seen Jamie Chung before. Then after Googling her today, I realized I saw her on The Real World. And I remembered her being quite annoying. Very annoying actually. But I do give her props for turning her reality show stint into an acting/modeling career. Many people on reality tv try and fail at it so one has to repect the fact she has gotten work on both films and tv since being on the show in 2004. And I mean, as annoying as she may be, she's really hot. And we all know that compensates for a lot.

Memaids, Experiments, "Yoü And I"

Everyone cried "bored" when Lady Gaga came out with her "Edge of Glory" video a couple months ago. The masses wanted crazy Gaga back and that's surely what you get with "Yoü And I". This is one of my fav songs from her and I must admit I like that she somehow managed to turn a love ballad into a freakshow.

"Dirty Joke": Menage

Q. If you are having sex with two women and one more woman walks in, what do you have?

A. Divorce proceedings.

"Bad (Not Bad Ass) Tattoo": Rainbow Tasting

Ok so usually I'm in total support of rainbows. And I'm surely in favor of tasting one. But bearing a Skittlez (yes "z", not "s" apparently) on your chest for all to see? Probably taking the love of candy and color a bit too far.

News Spotlight: Brand Un-Endorsement

This is the funniest celebrity news I've heard in a long time. How awful do you have to be for a clothing brand to pay your NOT to wear their clothes? Pure comedy.

From Forbes: "Not all celebrity endorsements are good, at least Abercrombie & Fitch doesn’t think so; the apparel retailer is asking Jersey Shore cast member Mike “the Situation“ Sorrentino to stop wearing its clothes.

That’s right, the apparel chain known for it racy adds and half naked models thinks an MTV reality star known for being nearly naked is damaging it’s reputation. The retailer is actually offering to pay Sorrentino to take off their clothes and issued this statement:

““We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”"

Today is the material girl's birthday. As an homage, here goes some quotes from Madame M.

“It is difficult to believe in a religion that places such a high premium on chastity and virginity.”

“It takes a REALLY big man to fill my shoes.”

News Spotlight: The Art of Thievery

I'm always impressed with the balls on some people. I'm not sure what art thieves do with these stolen famous artworks, but I'm sure it's more a thrill of the chase kinda thing.

From UPI: "LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The Rembrandt drawing, "The Judgment," was stolen from a luxury hotel in Marina del Rey, Calif., despite top notch security, officials said.

The 11-by-7-inch drawing was valued at more than $250,000 and was taken from the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey when the curator was distracted, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Investigators reviewing hotel security video said the heist late Saturday was thought out in advance. The drawing disappeared when someone distracted a curator.

"The hotel has top-quality security," a Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman said. "We believe this was a well-thought-out and well-planned theft."

Officials said the hotel sometimes offers high-value artwork for sale. The drawing belongs to the Linerais Institute of San Francisco.

Hotel officials declined to comment on the theft, saying only the hotel is cooperating with investigators.

The Dutch master's works are popular targets for art thieves, art experts said, second only to works by Picasso. There have been 81 documented thefts of Rembrandt's works in the past 100 years, said Anthony Amore, co-author of the book "Stealing Rembrandts.""

I'm Baaaaaack, Bitches!

Nice break. Time to get back in the swing of taboo ;)

The blog will be out of commission for a week or so due to an out of state event Metal Taboo is taking part in. I know, I know. I will miss you too.
